How long have you been in business?
I've been doing start-ups in materials like Fluoroelastomers, Silicones, and other polymers since 1977 and I have been in the polymers field since I joined UniRoyal Chemical in 1963 after graduating as a chemist from UMass, Amherst.
What is your primary product or service?
We supply resin and fabric systems for composites like boats, airplanes, wind turbines, automobile parts, construction parts, etc.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After graduating from UMass, I had an offer to work for UniRoyal Chemical in Naugatuck, CT, and not knowing any better I took it. I eventually learned the rubber formulating business and found I was good at it and I liked it. I went on to work for Orcomatic, a rubber parts supplier to the automotive industry, and then went into sales for 3M Company selling their Fluoroelastomers. My independence then showed up so I started my own Fluoroelastomer compounding company in Hanover, MA. 14 dart-ups later, I am still at it.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We work on new resin system and new fabric configurations that are designed to solve todays fabricating problems and challenges. Carbon fiber composites for example are ten times stronger than steel yet a fraction of their weight. How do you manufacture parts from carbon fiber economically and in high volume and high quality? It's a challenge.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We are located in New Bedford, MA. We are always in the growth mode, so we will expand around the world if we can get enough of a market to support that.
